Scottish TV Production
Screen Scotland has launched its sixth opportunity for Scotland-based folk interested in working in television to gain a place on its ‘Outlander Training Programmes 2020/21’. Positive Thinking for Freelancers
ScreenSkills has teamed up with freelance expert Alison Grade and Sarah McCaffrey, founder of Solas Mind, for a two-session workshop on the subject of ‘Positive Mental Pathways to Success’. The sessions take place next Monday and Tuesday (November 23 and 24) from 3pm-4.30pm both days. Further information is available here.
International Screenwriting Opportunity
TIFF Writers’ Studio is opening up its Canadian programme to international screenwriters and writer-directors. The programme offers a whole host of mentoring and workshops for anyone at mid-level in their career and, for this round, it will all be delivered online. Financial Planning for Freelancers
BECTU Vision is running financial advice workshops on ‘Planning for Your Future’ on December 3 and 4. Aimed at those based in Scotland, further information is available here.
Digital Workshops
BBC Digital Cities are holding a three-day virtual festival ‘Digital Cities Virtual’ next week. It includes a range of workshops and talks on everything from: tips for filming with your smartphone, journalism skills, talent management, as well as lots of ideas for getting creative. The event runs from next Tuesday to Thursday (November 23-25). Find out more here.
Magazine Publishing
Interested in magazine publishing? Streetcake Magazine and MumWrite are hosting a ‘Editor Q & A’ later today (Tuesday, November 17) from 7.30pm-9pm. The impressive panel will talk about: submission guidelines, ways to improve your approach, what they look for in submissions, their writing processes, what it’s like to run a small press/magazine, and any other burning questions! Theatre Artists
Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum Theatre has launched its ‘L20 Artist Attachment Programme’, which is aimed at supporting 20 creative people from Edinburgh (and surrounding areas) to join The Lyceum for a year. It is open to all kinds of theatre artists including, but is not limited to, writers, directors, choreographers, composers, creative producers, designers, digital creatives, and more. It will involve a shadowing placement on a Lyceum project with a £1,000 bursary; quarterly Saturday skills development workshops; and one-to-one advice and support sessions from a range of experts. The closing date for applications is Sunday, November 29, at 11.59pm. Find out more here.
Table Reads
Filmmakers, actors and screenwriters are invited to have their scripts table read by members at the next ‘Scottish Screenwriters Meeting’. If you're interested in having up to 10 pages of one of your pieces table read, you can fine out more via Playwrights’ Studio Scotland.

Broadcasting in Crisis Event
The RTS and The Media Society are running two online events on December 7 and 8 from 5.30-6.30pm as part of the Steve Hewlett Scholarship Fund events programme. The sessions are on the theme of British Broadcasting in Crisis. The first session covers public service broadcasting, and the second focuses in on the UK commercial channels and SVODs. Screenwriting
The Screenwriter Showcase @Pinewood Studios has a call out for scripts from screenwriters for its next event as part of the Lift-Off Network, which includes the Lift-Off Film Festivals and Showcases. Scripts should be submitted before the final deadline of December 7 in order to be considered for the next event on January 29. You can find out more here.
Writing Fellowships
It has been featured in The Write Room before, but it’s a good opportunity. The 2020-2021 Black List and Google Assistant Storytelling Fellowship will award $20,000 to selected writers, which includes support for 6 months to work on the project, as well as a screenwriting mentor. Playwrighting
Hampstead Theatre is currently looking for full-length plays for its newly opened ‘Open Script Submissions’ window. Playwrights are asked to submit original plays that speak to a modern audience. Find out more info here.
